Bafic is an artist based on planet Earth. Amongst multiple other formats, his work is frequently conveyed via moving image. Bafic might say: we are all directors, in a way. But the job description is one that is associated with him perhaps more often than with you or I.
Bafic’s work seeks to engage with other beings; those from the past, those who are among us now, and those conscious minds who will come to exist. His work offers us a new lens, both on what we know and what we don’t. It creates the type of intimacy that can only be birthed through profound curiosity, using a kind of fearlessness that we affiliate with innocence. As a result, his work is unpretentious, but not naive.
Bafic’s point of view encourages us to look differently at every iteration of ourselves, but it’s his work that offers practical assistance. In some moments, this is literal, like in the case of ‘Processing Procession’, a piece which turned the camera to capture live audiences. In other works, like the ongoing ‘Warning.Camera’, this coaxing towards self awareness feels more suggestive; open to our interpretation, almost collaborative with the viewer.
This ability to connect with others has enabled Bafic to create music videos, visuals and stills for artists including Neneh Cherry, Buddy, SL, Mabel and Jeshi. These works are excerpts of truth, capturing the rare parts of each artist that are only visible and audible if you’re able to look, listen and question hard enough. And he is.
Bafic can currently be found in LA or online, globally. When he isn’t questioning everything, he is collaborating with brands such as Off-White, A Cold Wall, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Vice, adidas, Sonos, Dazed, Smirnoff, Boiler Room, ICA, Kiko Kostadinov, Dover Street Market and the Tate.
